Abortion and Christianity

Image
Given the Supreme Court decision to overturn the Roe v Wade ruling, let's embark on a journey of practical religion.  We can't practice our religion in a sandbox, we have to apply it to the real world, after all, religion effectively changes the way we view the world. Roe v Wade background "Jane Roe" lawyers filed a suite against the local district attorney Henry Wade claiming Texas law prohibiting abortion except to save the life of the mother was unconstitutional.  The Northern Texas District Court agreed it was unconstitutional.  Texas officials challenged this ruling, went to the Supreme Court. Supreme Court ruling was the Due Process Clause of the 14th amendment was violated by Texas law which cites a fundamental right to privacy, which protects a pregnant woman's right to an abortion.   But the Court also held that the right to abortion is not absolute and must be balanced against the government's interests in protecting women's health and prenatal...

Are Christians Racist?

Question: Whom does God love?   Answer: All men, all women, and all children, and not in that order. If you in anyway look down on another human and think you are better than them, or that your inherent worth is more than theirs, you are wrong.  You can recognize that you have talents and abilities that are greater than someone else, but that does not make your inherent worth more than anybody else.  That merely means the Lord blessed you with certain talents and abilities, and you should use them to bless not only your life, but the lives of those around you. There is a record in the scriptures where the Jews discriminated against the Samaritans because they were not pure blood, claiming they were not of Abraham.  I find it interesting that the Lord decided to teach a lawyer a lesson on who his neighbor is by making the generous one in the parable a Samaritan.  He was teaching that it didn't matter your race, it matters who you are. “Thou shalt love the Lo...

Scenario 2: Another woman and a man decide they want to have a baby, and are excited to bring a child into this world and are delighted by the prospect that they could be parents. As the pregnancy progresses, the mother begins to have severe morning sickness and can't barely function. She presses on for several weeks, but it just seems to get worse despite medical attention. What are her options? Scenario 3: Another woman and a man decide they too are very excited to have a baby and to bring a child into this world. As the pregnancy progresses, the mother becomes very anxious. She begins to worry incessantly about everything. Is there home ready for a baby, am I going to be a good mom...

Do you have faith that Jesus can calm the troubled waters in your life?

Image
Do you believe the story told in the bible that Jesus calmed the troubled seas when the storm was so terrifyingly bad that fisherman who are accustomed to storms were terrified?  If you are Christian, I assume you believe the account.  Do you ever feel like the disciples, where you are terrified of your situation, and you can't see how you can possibly recover, and escape from your situation? 37  And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. 38  And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? 39  And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea,  a Peace , be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great  b calm . 40  And he said unto them, Why are ye so  a fearful ? how is it that ye have no  b faith ? 41  And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, ...

How do you know you are Truly Christian?

What does it mean to be truly Christian?  Does it mean you have to dedicate 20 hours a week to service?  Does it mean you have to serve the poor in India like Mother Teresa?  Does it mean you have to preach the gospel to others as a missionary? My opinion, and I'd love to hear if someone feels different, the requirements for counting yourself a Christian are: 1) You believe that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer, and that He is the Son of God.  That He came into this world to save it, and it is only through him that we can be saved. 2) You have to try to follow Him. That's it.  You believe (#1), and you continually try to follow him (#2).  I say try because we will all at times find we are not following him, and we need to get back on track.  But if you are constantly trying to follow his teachings, and continually trying to be better, then I believe that is all that is required for #2. There is an argument to be made that "by their fr...
